What is the Fat Smash Diet?

The Fat Smash Diet was developed by Dr. Ian K. Smith to help people learn how to make healthy life choices during their quest for weight loss. It gained popularity on VH1's Celebrity Fit Club where celebrities used the diet to reach their own weight loss goals. The Fat Smash Diet is a 90-day plan that is broken into four stages, which are designed to provide dieters with the foundation to continue eating right and exercising long after the 90-day plan expires. The Detox Phase:The first stage of the Fat Smash Diet is referred to as the detox phase. This stage lasts nine days and is supposed to help cleanse harmful toxins from the system and help break poor eating habits. During detox and all subsequent phases dieters are required to eat four to five meals per day and drink lots of water. The primary food staples during the detox phase are fruits and vegetables. The first phase of the Fat Smash Diet is extremely restricted and may be difficult for many dieters to get through. However, if they do make it through stage one, they can expect to lose an average of 6 to 8 pounds during that initial nine days. The Foundation Phase:During phase two of the Fat Smash Diet, more foods are reintroduced into the diet plan, to include lean meats. This is a three week cycle, which gives the dieter more control over their eating choices and fosters the development of a healthy relationship with food. While this phase of the Fat Smash Diet is still fairly restrictive, when compared to the detox phase, it begins to seem easier. The Construction Phase:The construction phase of the Fat Smash Diet lasts four weeks and allows the addition of whole grains and even some sweets (very limited) into the diet. As with the first two phases, foods are eaten during four or five small meals, which are spread out throughout the day. During this phase of the Fat Smash Diet, the dieter continues to build a healthy relationship with food while they learn to incorporate small amounts of sweets without overindulging.
The Temple Phase:
This final phase of the Fat Smash Diet is intended to continue on as a lifestyle. It allows for the addition of white starches and some alcohol back into the diet. During the temple phase, dieters are in full control of their food choices. They understand portion control and the philosophy behind eating more smaller meals throughout the day. This is the culmination of the Fat Smash Diet, which should leave the dieter with a new outlook on eating and nutrition. The Fat Smash Diet is not a crash diet, nor is it an exclusion diet, which requires the indefinite exclusion of specific foods from one's eating plan. It encourages a balanced exercise program and helps dieter plan for mistakes along the way and shows them how to recover from these mistakes and move forward with their weight loss goals.
